"What the hell is the difference between a painting done by a person who wishes to paint like a child, and a child’s painting?'" - Patsy Stone
You don't need me to tell you that London is filled with tons of museums and history. You can find all the must do tourist attractions anywhere else. Below are some faves worth experiencing. And remember, museums are free so don't overlook them!
THE best museum in London. And again, museums are FREE in London, so don't skip out on it. The tea room and gift shopsis also lovely. You'll find all sorts of art and artifacts to check out at your own pace from all over the world.
Personally a favorite simply because of it's locations, architecture and cafes. It's extremely modern so expect some weird stuff, but you can still find some photography and quirky artsy things as well on your way to one of the many cafes throughout the structure.
An amazing museum known best for housing the famous Rosetta Stone. The building is enourmous, but again, given it's free, you won't feel like you have to see it all. Recommend researching ahead of time to figure out what you want to see as it's impossible to see it all in one go.
This museum is great because it's on the smaller side, is very central and has some amazing paintings including one that I think is one of Bowie's long lost cousins. Everything from Cezanne to Picasso to Monet and much more. You can get this one done in under an hour, no problem.
This gallery is fantastic but closed until summer of 2023. Once it's open though, you'll find all sorts of portraits from all around the world including the latest portrait of Kate Middleton in her gorgeous green gown.
This building is spectacular to visit the grounds and the location is perfect. But the real special fun thing to do is grab a drink out on their patio along the Thames. The bar outside is always hopping and is a perfect place to start your evening. The inside has some exhibits though, but the building and the bar are enough to enjoy.
A fun gallery in the middle of the Kings Road and Sloan Square in Chelsea that features different exhibits throughout the year. Check the calendar before commiting or just stop in during your day visiting the borough. The restaurant is also lovely especially if you can sit outside and people watch.
DAYTIME FUN
Corner of Hyde Park near Marble Arch where every Sunday, people gather to listen to speakers on their quite literal soap box declare their thoughts on whatever they want to say. Think open air public speaking form on a variety of topics from political to personal to human rights topics in a peaceful setting. It's unlike anything I've seen anywhere else and who knows. It may change your perspective on topics you never really took the time to think about.
Cute little area behind San Pancras Train station with canals and quaint house boats you can rent or live. The area is lovely to walk down and feel like you are in a completely different part of London filled with cafes and restaurants. It won't take up much time to enjoy it, so is a nice side
Good for Harry Potter fans and non fans. Inside Kings Cross station, there is a photo op of the famous luggage cart with a fake Platform 9 3/4 sign. It gets really crowded though, so get there early!
Trains are the best mode of transportation and Europe has some of the most spectacular stations that really act more than just a train station. St. Pancras is the mother of all train stations and happens to be where the EuroStar is to take you across the English Channel. But even better is they are attached to the Renaissance Hotel which has a lovely hotel lobby and bar. The hotel stairs are also featured in the Spice Girls music video "Wannabe", so definitely get your photo taken there! And don't skip out on the champagne bar overlooking the trains arriving coined as the longest bar in London.
Don't need to go into why you need to visit here. It's a gorgeous park filled with loads of hidden gems.
Richmond is a beautiful part of London which some would consider outskirts. But its' technically still part of London. There is a huge park where you will no doubt see deer and other wildlife just enjoying a leisurely stroll noshing on the fresh grass. Somehow they don't escape into the city. The town is also adorable and worth visiting. Ted Lasso was filmed here, so you'll recognize all his favorite haunts and alleyways.
Where the Royals still go now for "Thanksgiving" mass. The tour and building itself are gorgeous and worth visiting. If you can, go up to the top. You'll get gorgeous views.
Where Kate and Wills got married. This insanely gorgeous cathedral cannot be missed even if you tried. Right next door to Big Ben and Parliament, the vast building takes over the Thames from almost any angle you look from and will not dissapoint.
Neals Yard is off a tiny alleyway nestled off of Covent Garden. Blink and you'll miss it but once you find it, you'll get it. A tiny little triangluar "plaza" surrounded by colorful buildings, restaurants and stores. It's namesake, Neal's Yard, is also there selling their beauty products and booking massages. It's tiny, but worth checking out.
